Oh my goodness. The Beef Carpaccio at Adriatic Restaurant & Bar. Fried Capers, arugula, pecorino cheese, garlic aioli, and cured egg. This is a small dream of a treat. The house bread with dipping oil just made the dream deeper and better.

We’ve said it many times before, and this morning we say it again. Vini and his Adriatic team set the dining standard here in Salem every day.

From his first visit more than a decade ago, to last Friday’s Valentine’s visit, and all of the visits in between, Adriatic Restaurant & Bar remains an absolute favorite of #TheBaldOne. He finds that Vini and his team provide consistent quality and service across the board in atmosphere, attitude, cleanliness, and most importantly the meals that they serve.

The Spaghetti Fra Diavlo, with unbreaded eggplant and Kalamata olives is simply outstanding. This is a vegan and gluten-free plate, but our man with a plan corrupted it beautifully with a few spoonfuls of freshly grated cheese. The spice level was quite moderate, but every bite was delicious. A nice glass of Tohu Wines clean, crisp, fruity Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand complimented the meal impeccably.

After the Spaghetti was finished Vini personally delivered a complimentary, and decadent slice of Limoncello Cake with a wonderful house Graham cracker crust, blueberries and house Rosewater whipped cream. Oh my goodness.

Whenever the discussion turns to the best restaurant in Salem, Adriatic Restaurant & Bar has to be in the conversation.

Oh Eater Boston. We appreciate what you do, truly we do. But, you’re not really being fair here. Four of your selections, while all great businesses that deserve accolades, just aren’t restaurants. Breweries, distilleries, tea shops, and chocolate spots belong in their own categories. Now we understand that since it’s your game it’s your rules.

However, Adriatic Restaurant & Bar deserves a spot on this list, and their exclusion is a terrible oversight. There area few others that you either missed or somehow discounted. Oh well. “That’s the way the cookie crumbles.”

Adriatic Restaurant & Bar established itself as one of Salem’s top restaurants…

Adriatic Restaurant & Bar established itself as one of Salem’s top restaurants from it’s very first day. The space is clean and comfortable with a dedicated team of servers who strive to make you feel welcome.

#TheBaldOne stopped in and grabbed a seat at the bar with a few local movers and shakers including #GeorgeTheLegend, who in the days of Salem yore once tried to unseat a sitting Mayor.

A really nice Pinot Noir came first, along with a menu. Madison described the specials including a very tempting Tuna Tartare.

A Basket of Bread with three dips was chosen to start. The bread and the dips are all made in-house by the Adriatic team of kitchen masters. Each of the dips, tzatzki, babaganoush, and muhammara were excellent. This was the first time that our burly bald guy encountered muhammara which is a spicy dip of red peppers, walnuts, pomegranate molasses, and breadcrumbs. Rest assured that there will be another time soon.

House-made Cavatelli with Sausage was the entree. Spicy Fennel Sausage, also made in the Adriatic kitchen, roasted peppers, spinach and a house spicy oil dressed the Cavatelli nicely. The dish was attractive and delicious.

Vini, always the good host. came over to chat for a few minutes. He returned a little later with a plate of the Tuna Tartare for himself. We failed to get a photo of his snack because the wonderful, soft and chewy Cavatelli had the full, undivided attention of #TheBaldOne.

Let it be known far, and wide that we love The Adriatic.

Of all of dining spots in Salem, Adriatic Restaurant & Bar is…

Of all of dining spots in Salem, Adriatic Restaurant & Bar is one that stands out for their consistency across the board. Long a favorite of #TheBaldOne, The Adriatic continues to hold a top spot in his world.

A glass of Jean Busquet Malbec and rustic bread with olive oil for dipping was a good start to the meal.

For a starter he chose the Pequillo Peppers with shrimp, calamari, in a slightly spicy bechamel sauce. Pequillos are a sweeter pepper that generally don’t hit 1,000 on the Scoville scale. They worked well with the delicious, creamy bechemel with bits of shrimp, and calamari bringing added texture and depth of flavor.

The entree, selected from the specials menu was a Baked Cod with zucchini, carrots, peppers over mashed potatoes in a delightfully light sauce. It was presented beautifully, and hit like a gentle caress across the palate.

Thanks to Vini, and his team for a great Saturday night meal.

There are very few places in Salem that have never disappointed #TheBaldOne.…

There are very few places in Salem that have never disappointed #TheBaldOne. At the top of that very short list stands Adriatic Restaurant & Bar.

Lunch last Sunday was at the bar, and it began with a very good can of Helles Heffeweizen by Tucher Brau in the Bavarian region of Germany.

Grillef Asparagus spears with Parmesan and olive oil dressing came out first. Cooked al dente this small plate did it’s job by satisfying the palate and stimulating the appetite.

Then it was on the the Grilled Meatballs, which were long ago #BaldOneApproved. Served atop a garlic yogurt with mint, and toasted crostini the meatballs were as good as ever. Somehow the toasted crossing was forgotten. After a reminder however. crostini did arrive, but was toasted much lighter than expected. When all was said and done, the crostini was employed to finish up the Parmesan dressing that came with the asparagus.

Adriatic Restaurant is waiting for your first, or next visit.
