Before you head to Salem Common for the Salem Jazz and Soul…

Before you head to Salem Common for the Salem Jazz and Soul Festival tomorrow, you’ll need breakfast. Sure you can make it at home, but why? It’s the weekend to support local music, so why not support some local restaurants by enjoying a good morning meal.

Salems Retreat has what you need to start your day.

Red’s Sandwich Shop is always a good morning gathering spot.

If you’re coming in on Rte 107 (Highland Avenue) April’s, salem ma will hit all of the right breakfast notes.

Dotty and Ray’s – Salem, MA sing you a song of hollandaise and house salmon cakes.

There’s plenty of room at The Derby Salem for your jazz fest party.

On this past Saturday #ElderBerry and #TheBaldOne agreed to meet for a 9 A. M. breakfast at Dotty and Ray’s – Salem, MA. It was assumed that #VeryMerryBerry would come along.

As 9:30 arrived our bald and hungry protagonist had a seat at the counter and was drinking a hot, green tea. By 9:40 the clock was ticking loudly, but all was well. The ElderOne had a few important errands to run, so patience was the order of the day. Teas was sipped, messages were checked, and the hustle and bustle of the day was put aside.

On arrival of #ElderBerry it was noted the the VeryMerryOne was absent. Oh well, breakfast for tow will have to do.

It was a Cheeseburger Omelet, as suggested by our server, for the ElderOne. After considering a Pastrami Omelet, the BaldOne chose instead the Southern Grandma Skillet, and after conferring with the server added buttermilk fried chicken. These two orders would make for a considerable and delicious breakfast.

The Cheeseburger Omelet, with ground beef, onions, and American cheese inside is topped with lettuce, tomato, and house-made thousand island dressing. #ElderBerry loved the revelation of pickles on an omelet.

As for the Grandma’s Skillet with fried chicken? Whew! The house sausage gravy is not ground beef, is quite rich, and should be in the conversation of top breakfast gravies in the area. It was a surprise to discover that the chicken breast presented a nice dill undertone. The breading is thinner, but covers the meat well and presents a subtle crisp to the experience.

#ElderBerry again raved the home fries. He really likes that they finish them with a quick dip in the fryer.

On another note. We express our condolences and join the Berry Family on the passing of Niles.

#BabyBerry

Breakfast late on a Sunday morning, or even early afternoon?

Brothers Taverna has the eggs, has the meat, and some good hot coffee.

The only sit down Dominican Breakfast in Salem is at April’s, salem ma up on Highland Avenue. Treat yourself to fried salami and cheese.

Deb’s Diner will serve a plate of Sausage Gravy & Biscuits that will send your taste buds south.

We need only say Dotty and Ray’s – Salem, MA and French Toast we’ll have your attention.

Fountain Place Restaurant and a simple plate of Scrambled Eggs & Bacon insists on your presence.

Five spots for your weekend Breakfast.

Salems Retreat draws a bit of the #HalloweenHordes, but Nicole and her still would love to see you.

If you just LOVE the October Chaos, join the crowd at The Ugly Mug Diner.

An early arrival at Witchside Tavern is advised.

Dotty and Ray’s – Salem, MA is usually good for a table or a couple of seats at the counter this month.

Never, ever underestimate or forget Maria’s Place.

Here are two Sandwich memories from two different spots. They were served as menu specials at the time.

First up is the Roast Beef Poutine at Dotty and Ray’s – Salem, MA. Gravy, cheese curd, and fries on a great roll. This was a “stick to your ribs” treat.

Next you see the the Spaghetti & Meatball Sub at The Derby Salem. As an unexpected lunchtime treat this creation was memorable.

What’s your Friday looking like?

An Omelet at Dotty and Ray’s – Salem, MA would be a great way to start your day, and depending on your circumstances the weekend. After breakfast a short walk up to Greenlawn Cemetery would serve you well. Check out the Friends of Greenlawn Cemetery page when you get a minute.

The lunch options in Salem are endless. Longboards Restaurant & Bar has 1/2 priced, dine-in Wings on Fridays. Once lunch is done drop into Popped Gourmet Popcorn for a little something to nibble on while taking a stroll to light house on Derby Wharf Light.

Dinner on this Friday night could be at Olde Main Street Pub. The Ale Battered Fish & Chips stand apart from all others in Salem. From there a short walk around Salem Common to see the bandstand Christmas Tree, and then a stop at
Goodnight Fatty will finish a good day.

Enjoy your Friday and the weekend.

If Sausage Gravy is your thing, Dotty and Ray’s – Salem, MA…

If Sausage Gravy is your thing, Dotty and Ray’s – Salem, MA is a spot that you have to visit. Gennaro makes a thick, very meaty gravy that will stick to all of your ribs. It’s high octane fuel for the active person. We suggest that you walk there, and then walk the long way home after enjoying the Breakfast.

There are three properly poached eggs under the gravy, and a photogenic pile of crispy home fries to round out the meal.

The Steak Bomb Omelet at Dotty and Ray’s – Salem, MA is truly “the bomb.” Stuffed well, folded over, and partnered with crispy home fries this is a great meal to start your day. This one was also accentuated with a few jalapeño slices at the request of #TheBaldOne.

Frank’s RedHot dressed the home fries and added a little additional zing to the experience.
