Kakawa Chocolate House brings a little bit of the southwest to Salem…

Kakawa Chocolate House brings a little bit of the southwest to Salem with their wonderful Chocolate Elixers.

The Elixer with whipped cream is the Zapoteca, an unsweetened sip with pure chocolate and a bit of vanilla. The other, a Mayan Pure Spice elixer also has pure chocolate, coconut, sugar, herbs, nuts, floral, and chili. Be aware that this one brings a little spicy heat to the equation.

Kakawa also makes their own chocolate candies and ice cream in house.

Kakawa Chocolate House has only two locations. One is in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the other is right here in Salem. They make chocolates, and ice cream in-house and serve wonderful Chocolate Elixirs which are small, delicious, arguably decadent drinks made with a variety of chocolates, spices, and sugars. You can try to sip them pinky up with grace and elegance, but so far #TheBaldOne has failed to display that level of social awareness and just shoots them down like it’s the last taste of chocolate in his life.

KaKaWa is word from the ancient Mayans who believes that the ancient Mesoamerican god Kulkulkan (Feathered Serpent) provided cacao to the world after humans were created. That was a sweet move.

We paid our first visit to Kakawa Chocolate on the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall since the pandemic lock down began in March of 2020.

Kakawa Chocolate House has their original location in New Mexico. They make their own chocolates and ice cream in-house. The specialty is Chocolate Elixirs which are served as beverages.

#TheBaldOne enjoyed two elixirs. One was the C*H*I*L*I, served warm and made with 100% chocolate, New Mexico chili, and coconut sugar. The other was the Zapoteca served cold with small bits of ice, and 100% unsweetened chocolate. You get a choice of whipped cream, or not. They were both very tasty, with the Zapotec being the favored one.

Here are a few suggestions for your weekend meal planning. Don’t let the rain keep you down.

Tonight, for your Friday dinner run down to chezcasaboston on Bridge Street and get take-out sandwiches. The Captain Meatballs would be a good choice. But there are other options including a few prepared meals.

Deb’s Diner for Saturday morning breakfast may just end up being the highlight of your day. The sausage gravy and the Hollandaise sauce are a must for any Salem breakfast fan.

Saturday lunch at Longboards Restaurant & Bar with a house Flatbread and a cold draught beer sounds good. Be sure to get some Popped Gourmet Popcorn too.

Take a break on Saturday afternoon and stop into the Kakawa Chocolate House location on the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall. For you old timers that’s where Lally’s and Herman’s Shoe shops used to be.

The Prime Rib at Village Tavern Salem is second to none. There plenty of seating available. Be sure to get the mashed potatoes too.

Brothers Taverna will be more than happy to serve a solid breakfast to you and the family. Bring a friend.

End your weekend at Salem Willows for a #SalemChopSuey sandwich at Salem Lowe Chinese Food @ Salem Willows. If the chop suey isn’t your style, try the #10 combination plate.
