Chicken Wings are a favorite of #TheBaldOne. There was a day when he would throw down 12 to 15 at a time. Nowadays its ten at the most. He gets his Wings unadorned. He also likes his hot sauces. It’s best to dip each bite individually, so you can adjust as the palate desires.

Yesterday’s Wings at O’Neills of Salem were served with Buffalo sauce and bleu cheese dressing on the side. Sometimes a dip in both is made creating a wonderful heating and cooling contrast.

After a few bites, bartender and a la carte bouncer Roger offered a bit of his own house HellFire hot sauce. Our hero has enjoyed this peppery creation before and was all in, especially when told that the formula had been adjusted. This is a serious sauce with real heat that will tingle the tongue with the first taste, and then climb to the roof of your mouth within seconds. Lip tingling and infiltration into the nasal passages ensue, and the more sauce you use, the greater the effect. It also has real legs and doesn’t fade away quickly. Use it judiciously, or dare it to overwhelm. It’s your call. We score it a 6.75 on #TheBaldOneScale.

Lunch or dinner today could be at O’Neills of Salem. There will be music today starting at 6 P. M, and also tomorrow starting at 4 P. M. The will be sports on the big screens all day.

Yesterday #SonOfAnExpletive stopped n for lunch. It began with a cup of Guinness Beef Stew and then hit it’s delicious and savory peak with an order of the House Bangers & Mash. This traditional dish, also known as sausages and mash, is a “traditional British dish, consisting of sausages served with mashed potatoes. It may consist of one of a variety of flavored sausages made of pork, lamb, or beef (often specifically Cumberland sausage). The dish is usually served with onion gravy, but may also include fried onions and peas.”

While there at the pub, our favorite son was informed by #CallMeBill that he was now aware who it is behind the hashtag based on a previous post where, he claims to have seen our undercover operative in action at another (undisclosed) location. We believe that he is imagining things.

The Bangers & Mash at O’Neills of Salem are the real deal for a tasty meal folks.

It was time for an Irish Breakfast yesterday for #TheBaldOne. To be honest the intent was to to visit O’Neills of Salem. But alas, the joint was packed.

So it was off to The Ugly Mug Diner. On Friday morning our hero tried foran Irish Breakfast at The Mug, but there was a long wait. Our BaldGuy does NOT wait in line. But on this day he able to amble in and mosey up to a seat comfortable at the counter.

An Irish Breakfast it was, despite being informed to his great disappointment that the special mashed potatoes weren’t available. This detour was worth both the time and effort. The three perfectly sunny eggs carry true visual testimony to a great St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast.

Over the weekend #TheBaldOne entered a raffle while Brian Cogger and Friends played at Columbus Society Lounge. The music was great and he walked away with a Salemopoly board game which was donated by Witch City Walking Tours.

The game wandered downtown Salem for a few hours with our smooth domed walking man with a stop at O’Neills of Salem for a cold beer, a couple of pies at American Flatbread Salem, and then a stop at Notch Brewing.

Now to figure out what to do with this well traveled boardgame.

OK let’s talk the house-made HellFire Hot Sauce at O’Neills of Salem.…

OK let’s talk the house-made HellFire Hot Sauce at O’Neills of Salem. Now when we say “house-made we actually mean Roger made. We’ve mentioned this sauce a couple of times before, and after a visit last Monday night for 50 cent Wings, we are compelled to mention it again.

There are three sauces in the first photo. The one on the forefront is just a typical Buffalo Sauce. It packs a minor heat and is serviceable across the board. On the left you see Roger’s Sweet Thai Chili. It’s a nice sauce that does indeed feature both the sweet and the heat, with heat being of a slightly above moderate level that is manageable for most folks.

The Wings of course, were requested naked. Dipping is the key to properly exploring and enjoying a proper hot sauce.

Let’s now get down to the real subject at hand, the HellFire which is on the right. Oh Yeeeaaah! This is a Hot Sauce. #TheBaldOne likes his heat, he likes it a lot, and has an above average tolerance for the sauces that sizzle the tongue. However, while his palate may border sometimes on the machochistic, he nevermore crosses over that line into the acute agony of capsaicin overload, otherwise known as pain. With the HellFire he found that every third bite or so, he has to take a break and nibble on an unadorned Wing. The tongue should hiss and smolder and smoke a bit, and then gradually reach a point where the signal from tongue to brain suggests that you cease and desist. Some listen to that signal, others choose to march forward into the flames. #TheBaldOne listens, but only to rest for a bite or two and then return to the Hot Sauce arena. He likes the tickle of the flames, but prefers to avoid the actual burn.

Speaking of heat, they have a selection of Tequila by Clase Azul México at very, very reasonable prices.

Do you like it hot?

Yesterday evening #TheBaldOne sat at O’Neills of Salem with an old friend from his high school days. #TerrioWithaK (TWK)returns to Salem from somewhere south of the Mason-Dixon Line a few times a year, and our Bald and Ornery protagonist always enjoys reconnecting. Once both were young, skinny, and ran like wind with a few others of that ilk through the streets of Salem, and more importantly the mighty toboggan slide at Gallows Hill.

Here’s a beer that was ordered by TWK. It’s a properly layered Guinness and Harp. But, he topped it off by sprinkling black pepper on the foam. We’ve never seen or heard of this, but he assured us that it is a thing in England.

Is this really true, or did some fun loving Brit prank our man on the far side of the pond?
