We never take a recommendation from #BlueEyes lightly. You shouldn’t either.

The #SalemLobsterRoll being served at The Landing at Salem Ferry is provided by James Hook and Company. Our BlueEyedOne says this is a good one.

While we’e on the subject. A BlueEyed favorite is the #BeverlyLobsterRoll at Joe’s on A ROLL. The Lobster Bisque always pairs well with the roll.

Over the 4th of July weekend we encountered two separate food trucks on Derby Street.

The LobsterRoller was in front of the The House of the Seven Gables parking lot. Lobster Rolls are a bit pricey these days, but this truck has a small $15 option on the menu. We couldn’t find a schedule for their appearances here, but have been told this is not a one time appearance.

Down on Blaney Street at the The Landing At Salem Ferry we found “The Airstream” set up at the back of the parking lot. This truck is a part of the A La Sainte Terre Professional Catering team and we did have a chance to sample the goods. We’ll post our thoughts a little later today. This truck is at The Landing every Thursday through Sunday and there’s live music 6-9 P. M.

Early on Saturday morning we received a PM asking us to take some time and visit The Landing at Salem Ferry to check out a new food truck that sets up there Thursdays through Sundays. We always strive to accommodate those looking to grow their businesses, so #TheBaldOne decided that he would visit later that day, which happened to be the 4th of July.

It seemed that a storm was brewing in the sky as our protagonist arrived. Grey clouds, a bit of a breeze, and the smell of a summer rain were slowly rolling in but caution was thrown to the wind as a decision was made to commit to the mission. In the words of #Weyman, “in for a penny, in for a pound.”

#FrankAndSharon arrived at the same time, forming a trio of slightly past their prime old-school Salem Superheroes. Frank provided a couple of Stella Artois beverages but declined an offer of a Burger from “The Airstream” a family operated effort by A La Sainte Terre Professional Catering on our dime.

The Airstream vehicle itself is brand new, and as shiny as a brand new penny from the mint. The menu included Smash Burgers, Grilled Cheese, BLTs, Potato Salad, Street Corn, and even a Charcuterie Board. A Key Lime Pie is the offered dessert.

For #TheBaldOne it was a the Classic Smash, two patties with American cheese, grilled onions, pickles, and Smash sauce with added sautéed mushrooms on a potato roll. The meal needed a little balance, so it was decided that a little Potato Salad would provide that balance.

First we’ll discuss the Potato Salad. There are many versions of this seemingly simple dish out there and we all have our preferences.. We didn’t ask any questions about the Airstream recipe, but suffice to say it is very creamy, and made with what we believe are Yukon Gold potatoes. There is a subtle tang to it that fills in the flavors nicely.

The Smash Burger? There are those out there who are not Smash fans. But it is our experience with them is that if they are cooked properly plenty of juices remain, and a double patty is the best way to experience this style. This Burger was cooked the right way, and every bite was a pleasure. The next time we’ll explore the Jalapeño Popper Burger of the house specialty the Ranch Diablo Burger with the house Black Garlic Hot Sauce.

Overall, with the venue, the weather which threatened doom but did not deliver, the gleaming new Airstream, friendly family service, Potato Salad, the Burger, and the compnay it was a great way to spend an hour on the Salem waterfront.
