Yes indeed, #TheBaldOne did stop into Boston Burger Company on Washington Street yesterday. He admits freely that memories of what used to be included his thoughts. He never passes this spot without thinking of Giovanni and his team of Grazianis.

Our guy had a short and pleasant chat about the importance of local connections for businesses in a small community like Salem.

Instead of going for a typical Burger, our man without a plan opted for the The Pilgrim Turkey Burger. A little change of pace was in order. The turkey patty is topped with another patty made of stuffing, American cheese, and a house cranberry mayo. It comes with house potato chips and baked beans.

Keep in mind that #TheBaldOne is not a huge fan of burgers not made with beef. It’s clearly a flaw in his character. Nevertheless he enjoyed this Turkey Burger. The stuffing and the outstanding cranberry mayo elevated the entire experience. If you’re a fan of baked beans, these feature more of a savory BBQ kick than a molasses sweetness. It’s a nice touch. It was all washed down with a Notch Brewing Salem Lager.

On his next visit #TheBaldOne plans to try The Vermonster. He’s never had a Burger with sautéed apples before. Have you?

Listed below, in no particular order are the restaurants that built these burgers. We politely ask you two questions.

1. Can you name any of the spots by looking at the burgers?

2. Which Burger was the favorite of #TheBaldOne?

On Friday night #TheBaldOne decided it was time to make his second ever visit to Boston Burger Company on Washington in Salem. To be honest , his most immediate thought on entering was to remember Giovanni Graziani, along with Paula and the rest of the Cafe Graziani family. Sometimes the past is indeed prologue.

The place was busy, but the bar was wide open, so a seat was taken, and a Zero Gravity Little Wolf Pale Ale requested to sip while considering the menu.

This spot obviously specializes in burgers, with fresh ground sirloin and every possible combination of additions, available so you can stack your Burger as high as you want. #TheBaldOne chose to “build is own,” cooked rare, with cheddar, pepperoni, and a fried egg, with house baked beans on the side. But first he wanted a bowl of Chili, which he recalled fondly from his first visit a few years back.

The Chili, very meaty with fresh ground beef, onion, peppers, and a really good, thinner broth was as good as remembered. Eating a gallon of this on a cold, snowy day is not out of the question. Special mention is also deserved for the Baked Beans. Soft, a good molasses sweetness, and a medium brown color. These beans are the real Boston Baked deal.

The Chili and Burger came out together, despite the request having been made for tbe Chili to be served first. When the Burger was appraised an additional issue became very clear. It had pepperoni and an egg as ordered. But the cheese was Swiss, and it had sautéed mushooms. No worries, confusion sometimes reins, and our hungry hero decided to eat what was delivered, which was an Alpine Burgerwith two additions. The first bite into the Burger revealed that it was cooked medium, not rare. But no matter, the meal moved on. In truth the last few bites were more medium-well. This distracted from the experience quite a bit. But it still should be said that the Burger is nicely thick and fills the potato bun. House Potato Chips, thick and crunchy, were very lightly seasoned. The very good Chili, and excellent Baked Beans balanced it all out.

We’ll be back again because it’s what we do.

Here we present you three options for lunch, or dinner on this very fine Monday.

PIZZA WORLD on Jefferson Avenue. Have a slice of pie or two, The #SalemRoastBeef Sandwich is worth it too.

A burger and adult milks shake at Boston Burger Company on Washington Street would hit two spots, hunger and thirst.

CASA Tequila SALEM MA. has a great patio, and the upstairs lounge is a great spot.

Boston Burger Company on Washington Street was visited by #SonOfAnExpletive the other day. He was in a mood for a Burger, and had never before been to any of the Boston Burger spots.

They make a nice burger. Thick, juicy, and cooked to the requested temp of “early” medium rare. Early meaning that it comes off the grill just as it transitions from rare to medium-rare. This was a Wicked Hot Burger, sliced jalapeños, horseradish sauce, and cheddar cheese. The burger itself rocked. the toppings were tasty, and generous. However, “wicked hot” it was not. The next time he plans on an Inferno Burger with their homemade inferno habanero salsa and chili pepper mayo. When he’s promised heat, he expects heat.

Big props for the BBC Guacamole & Chips with Pico de Gallo. The chip were crunchy, nicely salted, and didn’t cause greasy fingers. As for the guacamole. Santo cannoli, fue maravilloso.

If this had been a #SalemBurgerBrawl visit, the overall score would have been a 6.75.

This plaque, in memory of Giovanni Graziani can be found on the sidewalk on Washington Street outside of the old Caffe Graziani, now Boston Burger Company Salem.

One day soon there will be a formal dedication. Salem Food Digest was thrilled to come across this plaque this morning and #TheBaldOne will surely awaken in the morning after a night of dreams about Giovanni’s Lemon Ricotta Pancakes.

Boston Magazine is staging their Battle of the Burger 2019 in August.

Ledger Restaurant and Chef Daniel Gursha are in the competitive mix. We’ve had the Ledger Burger and love it. We’ve also tried some of the others on the list and there are some good ones.

We voted for Ledger, our favorite son competitor. But we feel obligated to mention that Boston Burger Company is also in the mix.
