What’s going on and what’s open at Salem Willows? We took a quick run up there today to visit Super Taco Salem on their opening day, and to scope out what else is happening.

First things first. The parking meters ARE NOT active yet. Sssshhh. Don’t let the City hear this. Just take advantage of the free parking while you can.

Cappy’s Seafood was open today. Super Taco Salem is open. Salem Lowe is open. E.W. Hobbs was closed today, but is open on weekends.

The sun was warm, and lunch from Super Taco Salem was enjoyed
sitting at a pic-a-nic bench by the flagpole. The gulls were sparse, but expectant. We’ll share our lunch details tomorrow.

Yes indeed. We did visit Salem Willows today for lunch. #TheBaldOne and #TerribleTee had a plan for this visit. But the plan fell apart quickly due to some places not being open for a Monday lunch. No worries however, They improvised and adapted.

Our bald and hungry hero headed straight for Cappy’s Seafood on the midway and ordered a Clam Plate. He meant to order a Clam Boat which comes with onion rings, but the Clam Plate with fries served just as well.

Here’s a delivery lunch from the new Cappy’s Seafood on the Salem Willows Midway.

House-made Mozzarella Sticks and hand-cut and battered Onion Rings and the true monster of a 3-Way Roast Beef Sandwich thick with smoked roast beef. The Mozzarella Sticks while tasty aren’t typical, the breading is a little different. Don’t sleep on the Onion Rings either.

The Beef? It’s one you should try. The smoke flavor isn’t too strong, just enough to accent each bite. There was plenty of beef between the bread, and as you can see the sauce, mayo, and cheese make it properly sloppy, this is a sandwich in Salem not a super model on a Paris runway. It should be sloppy.

You’ll have to excuse us today, we generally don’t feature a Beef two days in a row, it’s just the way the weekend worked out. And, we are trying our best not to offend anybody today.

Yesterday’s day at Salem Willows also included a stop at Cappy’s Seafood. The menu is smaller under the new ownership, limited to Fried Seafood right now. Fresh made Milk Shakes are also available.

The Clams are fried nicely, drained well and have nice fat bellies. Onion Rings were the choice as a partner. The onion itself is cut a little thicker than many others, with a cornmeal breading that flakes off as you handle it.

Our newly appointed #SalemFoodi, the vivacious #RadioGirl ventured to the Salem Willows today with her group of vagabonds.

Cappy’s Seafood for clams and then a stop at Summer Pizza, LLC, Salems newest pizza shop was on the agenda.

The gull, although not an official member did as we understand, manage to participate in the eating of both the clams and the pie.
