Saturday afternoon, just as the snow began to fall #TheBaldOne dropped into East Regiment Beer Company for a fresh beer, and a small nosh from their sister restaurant Theara Spicy Kitchen.

Thai Spicy Esan Sausage and Cambodian Pork Eggrolls were the snacks of choice. The sausage made of pork, cooked rice, garlic, onions, lemongrass, kaffer lime leaves, cilantro, and chili is very savory with a steady, moderate heat, and a slight touch of the sour. Ground pork is the base for the eggroll with eggs, Malinga (taro) jicama, onions, carrots, oyster sauce, salt, sugar, and black peppers tightly wrapped in a crispy wrapper. They are just about finger length, and provide a slight crunch for texture.

A session IPA called Built For Speed made for a perfect partner for the sausages and egg rolls. Three different hops combine to make a light, refreshing quaff that balanced everything perfectly at 4.3% ABV.

East Regiment is veteran owned, and built by the four hands of the owners.

A couple of days back #TheBaldOne decided that the time had come to again visit Amazing Pizza & More on Pickering Wharf. He’s had the pizza, chowder, beef stew, and meatballs in the past and enjoyed them all greatly. This time he asked Jackie “what is it that you want to show the world today?” The answer came without hesitation as she pointed to the specials board and the words “Chicken Cordon Bleu.” So, there it is, and here it is.

House made linguini tossed in a house cream sauce topped with house breaded chicken, ham, and cheese were presented beautifully on the plate. This is a true scratch made meal.

The consistency of the sauce is thick and holds the pasta together well. No one wants breading to dominate a bite, and Jackie’s light, thin breading acts strictly as an accessory to the excellent meat and cheese. This is a good feed that is deserving of your consideration.

East Regiment Beer Company provided the liquid refreshment and as always the East Reggie Co. did it right.

Last night #TheBaldOne stopped into East Regiment Beer Company for a fresh beer. But that wasn’t all. The beer was a perfect excuse to try the Chicken Sandwich by Crazy Good Kitchen (CGK) who operate in the shared space.

The sandwich, called Make It Spicy was ordered first. On our heroes last visit Jasmine of CGK had suggested strongly that he should try the Chicken and was happy to take the order. As a bonus she recommended the spicy fries too. Done and done.

Then it was time to choose a beer. After consultation with the Dylan the house beer sommelier, a lager of the amber persuasion was selected. It was then “smoked” right at the bar using a small, efficient contraption. You can see this process in a short video posted here last night. Try it, you just may like it.

Now, to the Make It Spicy chicken creation. It features a good portion of fried chicken with slaw, pickles, and a house-made buttermilk ranch dressing served on a Brioche bun. This sandwich is a handful, and just a bit sloppy, which is as it should be. Sandwiches like this require a napkin or three. Every bite was enjoyed greatly. The heat was not overwhelming, but it was there. Score the spice level as a 4.5 on the BaldOne Scale.

Find some time this weekend and visit both the the East Reggie crew, and the team at CGK.

Crazy Good Kitchen is serving some serious Burgers. Pair one of these bodacious beauties with a fresh East Regiment Beer Company quaff and you’ll have a hellacious lunch or dinner. It’s easy and can be done in one stop since the space is shared.

This Burger is called the Double Trouble. One or two patties, applewood smoked bacon, double American cheese, burnt butter mayo, and house pickled onion complete the Burger. A nice, somewhat subtle taste of garlic is provided by the burnt butter mayo.

A Schrodinger’s Cat Vienna style lager paired nicely with the Burger.

Is there room in Salem for another Burger? The answer is obviously…

Is there room in Salem for another Burger? The answer is obviously yes, because Crazy Good Kitchen has been here for a couple of months now at East Regiment Beer Company. Is the Burger crazy? Is it good? Is it crazy good?

#SonOfAnExpletive stopped in last night to get answers to the questions. These are Smash Burgers, which gave become a popular choice nowadays. You can get one patty or two.

This ‘Merica Burger was a double, to include double cheese and comes with their “Special Ketchup” which is a blend of ketchup and mayo, pickle slices, and griddled onions on a sesame seed bun. This is a very good Burger, quite reminiscent of an old-school burger from that other burger place that was featured in a movie a few years back, but better.

It was washed down with a light lager called Date Night, and a great conversation with Henry about the ‘Merican Civil War. It seems that Henry is very well informed on the subject.

Crazy Good Burger has a few other locations including Malden, Boston, and Miami.

Did someone say Beef Stew?

#TheBaldOne decided to try something amazing on Tuesday so he traipsed on over to Amazing Pizza & More on Pickering Wharf. The plan was to try and hit a few spots with small tastes at each. Plans are good, until you get hit hard by a delicious, freshly made lunchtime punch in the palate.

As our hero approached the Amazing entrance he was met by #AlwaysCookingBoss who informed him that she had been toiling in the kitchen for hours, and had just finished creating a Beef Stew, fresh bread, and a Blueberry Crumble Cake. Taking the clear hint, he decided that the stew was the correct choice.

A seat at the bar was chosen, and an East Reggie Ryce by East Regiment Beer Company was requested. This rice based Japanese style lager is reminiscent of a Sapporo beer, and truly hits the right notes. It is one of the better beers that the team at East Regiment have produced.

A small sample of the Blueberry crumble was sent out unsolicited, complete with a few fresh blueberries. Rich in texture, and filled with berries, it is a truly delicious and decadent treat. You deserve to experience a bite or two.

Now to the Beef Stew. The broth is moderately thick, with a nice touch of the savory. There are ample cuts of potato and carrot, with thick pieces of tasty, tender beef mixed in. The kitchen provided a big spoon to do the work. Teaspoons just aren’t right for a hearty stew. Every large spoonful was perfect.

Props must also be given for the bread. It was a soft pretzel like treat, soft and warm on the inside, with a chewy consistency that was perfect to dipping into and sopping up the broth.

After this hot, hearty, amazing start to the day plans for three or four stops were reconsidered.
