On the way home the other night #TheBaldOne decided that dinner would be take-out from Essex’s NY Pizza And Deli. This spot has been nestled in a corner spot at the Witch City Mall for quite a few years and just may make one of the better pies in the city.

It was the words “Steak Bomb” that jumped off of the menu behind the counter and got our BaldGuys attention, after all it had been a few months since his last one. While there he snapped a couple of shots of a small Chicken Broccoli Alfredo Pie as it was being taken from the oven and boxed up. It was a sweet looking pie regardless of the “no broccoli on pizza” thoughts of #ElderBerry. Boy can that guy get grouchy over healthy greens.

The Steak Bomb was cut in half and placed into a aluminum container with a plastic top instead of wrapped in paper. This was a nice touch for presentation. After a 45 minute walk home, which allowed time for #TheBaldOne to indulge in nice cigar the sandwich was still warm, fresh, and not soggy at all.

It was a very good sandwich with plenty of steak, salami, nicely accentuated by the peppers and onions, in a beautiful soft roll.

One downtown spot that deserves more attention from us, and from you is Essex Pizza. They’ve been around quite some time in their location in the Witch City Mall.

Lunch on this past Wednesday for #TheBaldOne was a slice of the day and a chicken sandwich. It wasn’t his first Essex slice. But it was his first ever Essex chicken sandwich.

The Slice was was bacon, red onion, and tomato. The pie is a NY style in every way, thin crust, good edge, with a nice undercarriage, and proper blistering. Our bald, pizza loving hero, or anti-hero depending on your perspective, has the Essex pie as one of his top pizzas in Salem.

Now to the Chicken Supreme Sangwich. Chicken sandwiches are all the rage nowadays, with some places opening up with them as their primary offering. This beauty comes on a Brioche bun with Sriracha mayo, swiss, bacon, fried chicken breast, tomato, lettuce, avocado and chips. In this case Doritos was the choice of chips. This sangwich was put together well, with a thick piece of chicken nicely breaded chicken breast and a good portion of thicker cut bacon. The Sriracha mayo and generous slices of avocado put it over the top.

Essex’s NY Pizza And Deli is right next door to Cinema Salem. Top Gun: Maverick plays starting today, as does the Elvis Movie with Tom Hanks. They are also showing Wayne’s World and something about The Minions and the rise of Gru. Pair a movie with a slice and a sangwich this weekend.

The Witch City Mall is often maligned on local social media. Much of the criticism is more than fair. But there are good businesses there, that deserve your patronage despite the failings of mall management.

Thai Place was the first Thai restaurant in the area is still there to feed you. Polonus European Deli & Ice Cream is #BaldOneApproved by acclamation. Essex’s NY Pizza And Deli serves a great pie. The Steak Tips at Village Tavern Salem are becoming legendary. We included Jodi Bee Bakes even though they are currently moving to Derby Street. And Cinema Salem, home of the Salem Film Fest is there so you can see a movie before or after your meal.

We just asked our office intern to check with the authorities and verify what day it is. They are truly becoming difficult to tell apart.

It’s Monday. Yesterday was Sunday. According to the foremost experts tomorrow is expected to be Tuesday.

Dotty and Ray’s – Salem, MA has been open and is doing a soup series and asking for your votes. We post a photo of their Meatloaf from a couple of years ago because we really enjoyed it.
