The classic Eggs Benedict is a favorite everywhere.

This Crabcake Benny, yes with that extra egg is served at Fountain Place Restaurant in Salem’s Historic Town House Square. This spot has been serving Breakfast and Lunch to locals and visitors alike for decades. Some may remember it as Town House Sandwich Shop, others have fond memories of Home Plate Diner. But it is most famous among those who remember as The Pewter Pot.

Today it is Fountain Place Restaurant and this Crabcake Benedict provided the proper fuel for the long, arduous day facing #TheBaldOne.

As #TheBaldOne was going about his business life downtown Salem yesterday he noticed the words “Philly Cheese Steak” on the A-frame sign outside of Fountain Place Restaurant. “Sold” he quietly said to himself.

We won’t claim that this is a faithful recreation of the sandwich that made Philadelphia famous. But we do say that the sandwich on a fresh, soft roll was stuffed nicely with steak and dressed well with peppers, onions, and mushrooms by request. In short, it was good.

The dining room was packed and a table of three sat nearby our hero loudly discussing their morning experience at the courthouse on Federal Street. They ordered lunch, and spent the rest of their time caterwauling about everything and nothing. We credit the server for patiently tolerating their foolish rudeness. As you have probably already surmised, they stiffed her.

Another table, two young students from Washington College in Chesterton, Maryland balanced the scales by being pleasant to all, and leaving a proper, maybe slightly more than proper tip. Nicely done. Go Shorewomen and Shoremen!
