#TheBaldOne established roots at Gulu-Gulu Cafe when they first opened 20 years ago and he toiled as the Health & Fitness Director at the Salem Y. Our Salem Food Digest roots were established at Gulu 14 years ago when he became a hackneyed wordsmith for Salem Patch back in their early days when Patch actually paid locals to contribute. Gulu was Patch HQ for three years, and for the last ten years our little food page has been embedded there. 80%of everything that we’ve ever published was created from a seat in Gulu. These roots are deep.

We wish Steve Marie, and Mina all the best as they move onto whatever is next.

#TheBaldOne was on the job at Gulu-Gulu Cafe this morning when tremors from the New Jersey earthquake lightly rolled through. At first he thought it was a train passing through the MBTA tunnel under Washington Street. But the slow, even roll of at least three tremors indicated otherwise. No one else in the cafe seemed to notice, so he thought maybe he had a rickety seat, or an overactive imagination.

Did you feel the tremors? Should we call Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward for assistance?

Lucy the Chef di tutti Capi at Gulu-Gulu Cafe will be introducing…

Lucy the Chef di tutti Capi at Gulu-Gulu Cafe will be introducing a new menu this week. Ciabatta Rolls are coming back.

Since bread is the critical base of any real sandwich Yesterday #TheBaldOne created his own breakfast sandwich in order to assure proper quality control. Asking for three eggs, sausage patty, cheddar cheese, avocado, and sautéed onion to be to stacked on the Ciabbata, he waited quietly for the sandwich to make an entrance.

Enter it did. Layered nicely, it held together well between the two soft, mildly chewy halves. Welcome back Ciabatta.

Last night at Gulu-Gulu Cafe #TheBaldOne explored this Ooshi Beer by Japas Cervejaria in Brazil. There’s quite a bit of Japanese descended folks there, so a natural cross of cuisines, beers, and martial arts had taken place and grown over the years.

Generally our reluctant, terribly shy hero avoids beers made with anything more than the basic grain, hops, yeast, and water. But on occasion he’ll choose to explore for the betterment of all humanity. We should all sacrifice for each other, regardless of risk.

This refreshing beer has a slightly more than moderate taste of ginger, with lighter hints of orange peel, and coriander. At 4.7% ABV it is crushable if paced properly.

We threw in a photo of the Gulu Bagel & Lox just because we can, and should.
