Here’s a suggestion for your day tomorrow.

The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM) is opening their Native American Art gallery with a celebration running for 10 A. M. until 5 P. M. Music, poetry, and a combined poetry/cooking demonstration best described as a combination of cooking and a poetry slam from 3 to 4 P. M.

Stop into Jolie Tea Company at the corner of Derby and Central Streets first and enjoy pot a tea and a pastry or finger sandwich first. They have a great, nicely lit, air-conditioned space to designed for relaxation.

From there walk up to the PEM and explore the new exhibit and maybe check out the poetry slam/cooking performance. It’s easy to lose a few hours at PEM, so feel free to walks, wander, and wonder. The Yin Yu Tang House is always worth some time.

Then it’s dinner time. Village Tavern Salem is directly across the Essex Street Pedestrian Mall and they are looking forward to offering you a seat, and serving you a meal.

We dare you to try and keep up with our friend #WeddingPlanner. When not making matrimonial plans for others, she’s often out exploring the sights, sounds, aromas, and flavors of the Salem restaurant world. Few can do it better.

Scroll the photos and see where shes been in the last week, and what was enjoyed at Village Tavern Salem, the still new Tepeyac Cocina Mexicana, Notch Brewing, Jolie Tea Company, and Brodies Seaport.

Last week #JustJoey treated #BellisimoBecky to a couple of birthday gifts. It started with BBecky sitting for High Tea with some friends at Jolie Tea Company. That’s a nice way to start a day of celebration.

A little later the two of them ventured onto Settler for dinner. We’ll let Joey take the story from here.

“We went to Settler last night for Beki’s birthday and it was pretty great.

Great simple yet modern decor with the classic wood ceilings you are so often in Salem homes. Reminded me of the Neptune Oyster space downtown.

Food was incredible. They provided a complimentary “amuse bouche” of homemade cider and we ordered a bottle of sparkling Saratoga water.

Apps were the Charred Leek & Onion Labneh with pomegranate and olive oil, served with crostini bread. Then the Crispy Herb Falafel made of chickpeas, cilantro, parsley, and cumin, served with harissa aioli sauce.

We both had the Monkfish entree served with small fingerling potatoes, foraged mushrooms, and an herb butter sauce. Quite amazing.

We didn’t have dessert but they brought complimentary chocolate chip cookies at the end of the meal.

We didn’t have dessert but they brought complimentary chocolate chip cookies at the end of the meal.

Only downside was they forgot to bring out the chocolate birthday cake/tart with a candle like I asked for, but at that point we didn’t want dessert and had chocolate covered strawberries at home.

Overall it’s definitely one of the best places to dine in Salem.”
