Oh #WeddingPlanner, #WeddingPlanner. Wherefore art thou?

We haven’t run into our prolific, and always active contributer lately. But rest assured, she is still out and about whenever possible.

Lulu’s bakery and pantry for breakfast and The Lobster Shanty for house Poutinehave both been visited recently. There was also a nice, homemade vegan Wild Mushroom Soup in the mix.

October 2023 has moved into Salem Haunted Happenings history. Our #WeddingPlanner persevered despite the #HalloweenHordes and for that we are grateful. So here today, we share some her October adventures.

Lulu’s bakery and pantry seems to have become a favorite. It is obvious that this Derby Street spot is #WeddingPlannerApproved across the board.

With a quick visit to Lynn, The Golden Monkey Cafe provided both a full meal, and some delicious leftovers the next day.

On The Grind Cafe on Jefferson Avenue is also on her good list. A Pistachio Muffin is always on her mind.

In Peabody it’s Endless Hibachi and Sushi for the win.

#WeddingPlanner does indeed rest, but not very often.

Her recent adventures brought her joy at Lulu’s bakery and pantry with a muffin, a sojourn to Derby Square after getting hot coffee at Odd Meter Coffee Co. and a Bahn Mi Sandwich at Annie’s Asian Mart, and of course a visit to last weekends Salem’s Food Truck Festival.

Our visit to Lulu’s bakery and pantry the other day wasn’t just for the beautiful cupcakes. The Cupcakes were an impulse buy (as a gift) after the Spicy Meatloaf Sandwich and a bowl of Roasted Cauliflower and Potato Soup were ordered.

The soup, which also had parsnip, or it may have been turnip, and leeks in it was thick enough to eat with a fork and full of very layered flavors. #TheBaldOne is always searching for the next great Meatloaf. This is a never ending mission, because once he finds a great one, he just starts looking for the next great one. Is Lulu’s Meatloaf a great one? We’ll see, it takes a few experiences over a period of time to make that determination. In the meantime rest assured that it’s worth trying, especially with the house hot sauce providing a good, but not overwhelming heat to the equation.

The Sandwich was walked over to Notch Brewing where the Cupcakes were gifted to the staff, and a freshly brewed, and most outstanding Heffeweizen washed down the lunch.

Yesterday was perhaps the most beautiful day of the year thus far. Therefore it called for a light, but beautiful lunch under an umbrella on a sunny patio.

Lulu’s bakery and pantry had a nice Chicken Salad Sandwich with pecans and grapes in a house roll on special that caught the attention of #TheBaldOne. The Split Pea with Ham Soup seemed a good companion for the sandwich.

Lulu’s has some tables outside abutting Charlotte Forten Park. It was a very good lunch, aided and abetted by a bag of Zapp’s Potato Chips Spicy Cajun Crawtators.

Afterwards was a short walk over to Notch Brewing. The Rotbier brought our bald and beer loving adventurer back, just for a few moments, to his youthful days spent volksmarching in Bavaria.

Take a stroll down Derby Street along the South River Canal today today. This stretch of Salem pavement forms a modern Restaurant Row in downtown Salem.

Engine House is on the corner of Lafayette Street and is under an new, active and dynamic ownership.

Jolie Tea Company on the corner of Central and Derby Streets provides you the true High Tea experience.

Just couple of doors down Central Street is A&J King Artisan Bakers. Get the sourdough, we assure you it’s worth your time and money.

Next door to A&J you’ll find Tacos and Tequila at Barrio New England.

On the other corner of Central Street at Derby stands Casa Tequila Salem Ma. This is the ONLY spot in Salem that serves Moljacete, “Molcajete” is the Spanish word for mortar and pestle. The name itself comes from the Aztec words meaning “seasoning” and “bowl.” However, traditional molcajetes are slightly different than your average mortar and pestle. These tools are made out of volcanic rock. Their hard, rough surface makes blending and mixing easier and also ensures you get the strongest flavors out of spices.”

Across Derby is the NEW American Flatbread Salem. It just may be warm emough today to enjoy a pie and a drink on the back patio.

Lulu’s bakery and pantry sits alongside Forten Park. Baked goods, sweets, sandwiches, coffee and tea. Nikki has it all covered.

Across the street is Bambolina and her sister restaurant Kokeshi. Neo-Neopolitan and Asian fusion? Kipling said, “East and West, and never the twain shall meet.” It seems that they have indeed, deliciously met.

Jodi Bee Bakes is a few doors to the east is a vegan bakery and cafe that deserves a visit from vegans and non-vegans alike.

One door down is All Souls Lounge, home of the retro-cocktail and creative Grilled Cheese sandwiches. This funky little spot has become a center of the Salem night time social scene.

Across the street is Brothers Taverna one of Salem’s premier Breakfast spots and also a good place for lunch or dinner.

Bit Bar Salem is the ONLY place in town where you can order a meal and a drink while also playing arcade games.

No journey down this part of Derby Street is complete without a stop into Notch Brewing for a fresh, craft beer brewed on site and a small bit of their daily provisions.

This town is a true #FoodieHeaven.
