There are in Salem who enjoy exploring our restaurant world as much as #WeddingPlanner. She does not sit around thumb twirling and dwelling on what might have been, her time is spent exploring and enjoying all that our local spots have to offer.

Ray Adeas on lower Lafayette Street is a favorite, and her recent take-out order did not disappoint. The blend of Mediterranean and Jamaican cooking is unique here in Salem.

Curried Chickpeas served white rice and plantains served as a great and good for you starter. The Witch Dr. Special of sautéed cabbage, chickpeas, carrots, zucchini, and squash over a bed of steamed white rice drizzled with tahini is a healthy, delicious bowl. Chicken Curry with an authentic Jamaican curry, slow cooked in a savory stew, and a medium of vibrant veggies, and a perfect balance of flavors amuse and impress your taste buds through every bite and chew.

Eat healthy the Ray Adeas way.

One of Salem’s best kept secrets, although it’s not a secret to…

One of Salem’s best kept secrets, although it’s not a secret to those who know, is Ray Adeas on lower Lafayette Street. Rayon, born in Jamaica, has a lot of high-end experience as an executive chef. He’s focused here on delicious, palate pleasing, healthy plates.

The clean, sun lit dining room seats about 25 guests to dine in, or you can get take-out.

Yesterday #TheBaldOne dropped in to chat with Rayon, and enjoyed an excellent lunch with the Adeas Sampler comprised of smooth, creamy Hummus, salad, smoky babaganoush, vegan falafel, and grape leaves. It also came with fresh baked pita.

Rayon remembered from the last visit that our hungry hero really enjoyed the French fries. With a thick cut, browned a bit, some smaller darker fries in the mix, and salted perfectly these fries are officially #BaldOneApproved, a designation never given lightly.

Stop in and say hello on your next trip up or down the street named for Revolutionary War hero Gilbert du Mortier the Marquis du Lafayette who visited Salem during his tour of the nation in 1824.

Ray Adeas is on lower Lafayette Street and is continuing to rock the local vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, and kosher communities.

The space is clean, lit nicely by the sun and has a few booths along the wall, and some dining room tables. You order at the counter and your food is brought to you.

#TheBaldOne selected a booth near the window and then took a few minutes to study the menu. Falafel, Sweet Chili Cauliflower, and a Quinoa Burger were chosen for a hearty lunch.

The Falafel is gluten-free. Coming in smaller than expected pieces the breading features a bit of a crunch. These little tidbits would go very nicely with one if Ray’s soups which we will try sometime soon.

The Sweet Chili Cauliflower is exceptional. Large florets, lightly coated with a house sweet chili sauce, and no breading they are soft, and quite delicious.

This was a first experience with Quinoa Burger. and it was worthwhile. Our bold, BaldGuy will take it over the Impossible or Beyond Burger products any time. It features taste, and a good texture. The generous slab of onion that cones with it put it over the top. The patty itself could be a little thicker, but that’s just a personal observation and not an outright criticism.

Oh, we almost forgot the French Fries. They are epically good.

We had a shirt chat with Ray after the meal. He seems a good sort. Drop in soon and say hello.
