On Thursday afternoon #DutchMan and #TheBaldOne wandered into The Point neighborhood for lunch at Salem Tipico on Congress Street. Despite it ‘s very busy take-out lunch and dinner volume, Tipico remains unknown and unappreciated by far too many in Salem.

Both plates began with some very savory Chicken that had been slow cooked perfection. Yellow rice bathed nicely in gravy, Dominican Spaghetti, and steamed veggies completed the plates. The Spaghetti is worthy of mention for it’s unique sauce, and the fact that the pasta is cooked well past al dente. Our BaldMan is strongly, and strangely drawn to this pasta.

There was also a bowl of Sopa des Huesos de Jamon, or Ham Bone Soup. This hot bowl of goodness is epic enough to eat by the gallon.

You need to taste the Tipico offerings soon.

It’s time to remind everybody that they should #CrossTheBridge onto Congress Street…

It’s time to remind everybody that they should #CrossTheBridge onto Congress Street once in a while for something to eat.

Salem Green Tomato is located in the main building, the one with the clock tower, at Shetland Park. They feed many of the workers and visitors in the complex and are also available for catering. The burrito in our first photo is one of theirs.

Then we have a meatball sub from Deli House. Scott makes the meatballs in-house and knows know to roll them.

Celia’s Restaurant is next in the photos with some excellent and very meaty pork ribs and Dominican spaghetti.

Fourth are the meatballs, beef ribs, and rice & beans from Salem Tipico.

Last, and never, ever least is Root. They are also at Shetland Park in the main building. Root provides youth, ages 16 to 24, with a pathway to employment and financial independence. Through developing life and work readiness skills, youth leave Root prepared for success in the workplace. They offer a small cafe with artisan sandwiches, salads, pizza, soups, and freshly baked goodies.

If you own a restaurant or another type food preparation business you should check Root out to see if their intern/training programs are a good fit for you.

You should consider #CrossingTheBridge onto Congress Street today fo lunch. A walk will do you good.

Celia’s Restaurant always serves great Dominican fare. The ribs are easy and fantastic.

Sandwiches, pizza, and salads at Deli House will do your appetite right.

Salem Tipico puts out some excellent meatballs.

Located within Shetland Park is Salem Green Tomato. You deserve to experience what they do.

Root is also at Shetland Park. They are easily one of the best non-profits in Salem, or even on the north shore.

Do you need a reason to #CrossTheBridge on Congress Street? If so, let us help you out.

Salem Green Tomato is a great little spot for a nosh. Located in the building with the tower at Shetland Park, this little spot will curl your culinary toes.

Next on the list of reasons is Deli House. As you cross the bridge just look ahead, they are on the right hand side on the hill.

If you continue on, just up the street on the left is Celia’s Restaurant where delicious Dominican food awaits.

Last, but surely not least, farther up on the left is Salem Tipico. They are the newest spot on the street.

Today we made our second visit to Salem Tipico on Congress Street.…

Today we made our second visit to Salem Tipico on Congress Street. This spot has been serving Dominican food for a few years now. It was the site of the original Tipico in Salem, then it was Celia’s Restaurant prior to their moving up the street. Now once again it is a Tipico.

Of course some of you old-timers remember when Larry’s Sub Shop filled the space.

The food and overall experience were greatly improved over our initial visit last year. New tables and chairs have cleaned the appearance up. There were more options to choose from and the food itself was very good.

The Aroz Amarillo (yellow rice w/veggies) was hot and very flavorful. There is not a lot of filler in the Albondigas (meatballs), they are very meaty. The Costilla de res (beef rib) beef rib was delicious and quite savory. If you have never had Bacalao (Dominican cod) this is good place to try it. The same can be said for the Rabo (oxtail).

Tis is a very small, cafeteria style spot. There is seating for about 15 folks and they do a vigorous tale-out business.

The Espegueti (Dominican spaghetti looked very enticing. We will drop in to try it soon.
