The well respected firm of #RyanAndFord believes that a good life requires good eating. Their recent visit to Mainstay Social at Salem Waterfront Hotel provided a bit of that good eating. #BarristerBill makes the bold claim that this Mainstay Burger is in the “Best in town” conversation. This one came with jalapeño and bacon. That Meat & Cheese Platter looks inviting too.

Salem Waterfront Hotel changed things up a bit in the old Regatta Pub space. A new look, a new Chef, and a fresh start were all ordered by the Captain of the ship.

The Mainstay Social welcomed #TheBaldOne the other day. He, being a creature of routine was happy to see that his favorite corner hightop was available.

The Burger, smash style with two patties on a Brioche bun could not be resisted. A garlic aioli and thickly cut maple bacon really made this Burger stand out. A return visit with a couple of accomplices may be in the near future.

Saturday found #TheBaldOne wandering into the Regatta Pub at The Salem Waterfront Hotel. The day was warm with a little breeze. The patio was available, but the sliding door to the pub was open so in he walked to sit at one of the high top tables by the bar.

It’s a nice looking menu with steak tips, a burger, seafood, chicken, some Mexican options, and hummus and tabbouleh.

The Fish & Chips with local haddock, fries, and cole slaw was the choice. The piece of fish was massive, and sitting atop the slightly browned shoestring fries it just about filled the plate. The haddock itself was thickly cut and very fresh. There was something different about the batter that #TheBaldOne couldn’t figure out. It was quite thick, very soft underneath with a slight, and not typical crisp to the surface in both appearance and texture. The server was asked what went into the batter, but the answer he brought back from the kitchen was more about how the batter is applied as opposed to how it is made. No worries though, the battered haddock stood no chance and was devoured quickly. The cole slaw is long shredded and quite creamy.

A True North Ale Company beverage washed everything down nicely.

Here we have a Sunday morning review of Brunch Bloody Marys. The one thing that we have learned is that we need top explore more Sunday morning Bloody Marys.

1. Brothers Taverna has a Bloody that belong alongside the most consistent pan-cooked omelet in the city.

2. Drink your Bloody with Kūkaʻilimoku, the four great Hawaiian gods at Counter Salem.

3. Ledger Restaurant serves a very good bloody with healthy interest rates.

4. Make you own Bloody at Mercy Tavern.

5. O’Neills of Salem has the only Irish breakfast in town and a Make Your Own Bloody Bar.

6. You can get a Bloody at Regatta Pub at Salem Waterfront Hotel.

7. Village Tavern Salem can do a lunch time Bloody.

8. Oh yes, the crew at Witch’s Brew Cafe will shake up a Bloody.

#BlueEyes was out and about last night with her #LadiesNightOut group. They hit Regatta Pub at Salem Waterfront Hotel for Salem Restaurant Week.

The starter was a Beet Salad with kale, shaved Bermuda onion, candied walnuts, ricotta cheese, and aged white balsamic vinagrette. It looks very fresh and tasty.

Next up was the Petite Filet Mignon Bordelaise. Pan seared with mixed mushrooms, sautéed Haricot vests, and Yukon Gold whipped potatoes. #BlueEyes always has an eye for the best.

Dessert was a Turtle Cheese Cake.

We all, on occasion live a vicarious dining life through adventures of our friend BlueEyes.

Here are a few choice for a late Sunday morning Bloody Mary Brunch.

Witch’s Brew Cafe on Derby Street. Sit at the bar, which would be our choice or grab a table.

Simple creativity is what you get at Ledger Restaurant in their big and very bright dining space.

O’Neills of Salem offers s small menu but features the only known Irish breakfast in Salem and a “make your own” Bloody Mary bar.

Somewhat under appreciated Regatta Pub at Salem Waterfront Hotel puts out a nice breakfast.

What and when to eat? These are decisions that we make every day. Here are four good options that have passed the rigid #SaemFoodi criteria.

1. Baked Mac & Cheese at Regatta Pub at Salem Waterfront Hotel. This is a very good dish.

2. Paprika GRILL Lamb Adana will rock your world. Tasty, and hearty enough for a vigorous appetite.

3. The pie, of any style from Amazing Pizza. The things that Jacqueline creates for you in that little shack are indeed…. amazing.

4. The O’Neills of Salem chicken wings are some really good wings. 35 cents each every Monday. Yes that is an order of steamed veggies sitting alongside.

Cheesy pasta, vegetable starter, and meat filled bread. All from different spots.

1. The Mac & Cheese at Regatta Pub of the Salem Waterfront Hotel. Don’t forget them when you consider your lunch to dinner plans.

2. Rolled (not breaded) eggplant with cheese, roasted peppers, spinach, and scallions. This is a wonderful plate.

3. An Engine House Restaurant Steak Bomb. In a world full of strong opinions concerning these shaved steak and cheese subs, this one competes well.

There are some spots in town that only serve breakfast as a Sunday Brunch.

O’Neills of Salem is the only place in town to our knowledge that does a full Irish Breakfast every Sunday.

Eggs Benny at Mercy Tavern has drawn some rave reviews.

Regatta Pub at Salem Waterfront Hotel frequently draws #BlueEyes on Sunday mornings.

House made hash and stuffed omelet at Village Tavern Salem await you visit.

Witch’s Brew Cafe has been serving Sunday Brunch as long, actually longer than most Salem restaurants.
