Let’s start this rainy Wednesday morning by remembering Cindy’s Planet at Salem Willows. This spot closed it’s door a few years back. They were a nice little spot, and to this day as far as we know, still the only Salem home for the Potato Tornado, a whole spiral-cut, deep fried potato.
These days this Salem Willows spot is home to Renzo’s Pizza and Super Taco.

Last Tuesday, #TacoTuesday to be precise brought us the opening day for Super Taco Salem at Salem Willows. It wasn’t that long ago when tacos weren’t all that common in Salem. Now many local spots offer them on Tuesdays and some all week. Mexican has become the trend lately with two full service spots, and two taco/burrito spots with a third on the way.
On Tuesday #TerribleTee and #TheBaldOne took advantage of a sunny and warm noon hour and and enjoyed a nice lunch at one of the pic-a-nic tables by the flagpoles.
The Tres Tacos began this Almuerzo del martes. This is a mix of your choice of tacos. A Ground Beef Taco with Pico de Gallo, cheese, and sour cream, A Carnitas Taco with pork, pickled red onions, cilantro, guacamole, and salsa, and a Grilled Veggie Taco with carrots, zucchini, squash, peppers, and light seasoning were the three tacos chosen. The Willows Supreme Wrap, ground beef, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, and guacamole pressed on the grill was also ordered. This supreme wrap is built for the hearty appetite. Many will get two meals out of it. Sides of fresh tortilla chips, guacamole, Mexican cheese, and Mexican rice came along for the ride.
We did not and never feed the gulls.
Salem has become home to some excellent #SalemTacos for sure.

What’s going on and what’s open at Salem Willows? We took a quick run up there today to visit Super Taco Salem on their opening day, and to scope out what else is happening.
First things first. The parking meters ARE NOT active yet. Sssshhh. Don’t let the City hear this. Just take advantage of the free parking while you can.
Cappy’s Seafood was open today. Super Taco Salem is open. Salem Lowe is open. E.W. Hobbs was closed today, but is open on weekends.
The sun was warm, and lunch from Super Taco Salem was enjoyed
sitting at a pic-a-nic bench by the flagpole. The gulls were sparse, but expectant. We’ll share our lunch details tomorrow.

The Willows will have another spot open this week for the season on Tuesday. Super Taco Salem is their new Facebook page, so give it a like to follow them.
We were able to sample several items last season and they definitely deliver on the authentic side. They have since updated their menu with new items that we will be checking out very soon.
