Just about every place serves Tacos nowadays either as a weekly special, usually on Tuesdays or as a regular menu item.

But, there just a few spots in Salem that ARE actual Taco spots where tacos are the featured, or one of the featured menu items. We’ll leave the “who’s authentic” argument to the nattering nabobs. Tacos, like anything else have variations depending on region. and have been modified to fit many tastes in many ways over the years.

A common complaint we hear is that there are too many of this or that out there as far as restaurants are concerned. This is especially true of pizza spots, and most recently Mexican or taco places. The market will bear what the market will bear. It’s all about demand.

Mexican is on nowadays, with the call for tacos seeming to rule and not just here in Salem.

Here we feature the spots in town that are Mexican themed, not just places that have tacos on the menu with two exceptions, and one shout-out for a spot that has moved on.

Taco Tuesday has become a standard in restaurants all over the north shore and beyond. What used to be a specialty item, now appears on many, if not most local menus.

But, there are still places that specialize in Tacos out there. This post will focus on them. A later “Tacos Across Salem” post is in the works for a little later.

Super Taco Salem on the Salem Willows midway opened up last year and quickly built a reputation as a go-to Salem taco spot.

When Spitfire Tacos opened up a lower Lafayette Street a few years back, there was no taco themed place in town. They filled a void, and kicked Salem’s Taco Craze into motion. You can find them in Spitfire Marblehead these days too.

Tepeyac Cocina Mexicana up on Highland Avenue is the newest, and this family owned spot has raised the bar for Mexican meals in Salem.

We threw in a shot of the Mini tacos at Bertini’s Restaurant because John and his team are in the final stretch and will close on Saturday, 2 July. We are planning on lunching there on Tuesday if you’d like to join us.

And of course, Barrio Tacos is here in Salem building out their space and hope to open before the summer is over.
