Scotch Eggs, or Scottish Style Eggs?
They are different altogether except that each is a egg based Breakfast dish.
The Scotch Egg seen in the first photo is a boiled egg wrapped in ground sausage, dressed in bread crumbs and baked , or even deep fried. The classic version has the yolks cooked medium, but they can also be cooked hard. Developed long, long ago for traveling, hiking, and military use this protein packed treat could be carried in a bag, or pocket to eat on the go. There are versions of these to be found in cultures around the globe. The Egg in our photo was served at The Ugly Mug Diner.
Scottish Style Eggs. Some will know them Shirred Eggs, Farmhouse Eggs, or Baked Eggs. Baked in a cup (ramekin) with butter or cream and sometimes topped with breadcrumbs and herbs. Additional protein like meat or fish can be added to make it a lunch or dinner portion. Stephys Kitchen in Beverly served the one in our second photo.
