When did you last visit Witch City Hibachi, Inc., the only hibachi place in town.

There were a couple of hibachi tables going when #TheBaldOne stopped in, including one rather boisterous birthday party. When the singing started our BaldDude didn’t join in. Why subject those good folks to such a din?

Yellowtail Jalapeño Sashimi was fresh and featured a very tasty contrast between the tuna and the pepper. Sashimi is one of the great gifts given by the food gods

Then it was time for the Pad Thai with shrimp. This is a classic dish that some say began in the early 20th Century as a basic street food called “kuai tiao pad Thai.” Legend also tells us that it became popular after WW2 when there was a massive rice shortage and Prime Minister of Thailand Plaek Phibunsongkhram encouraged the country to eat more noodles. Of course there is disagreement, there always is, and some insist that the dish was invented by Thai immigrants to the U. S. Who knows? It’s delicious.

This plate of Pad Thai hit all of the right spots and Kylie and her team provided good, friendly service.

Yes Virginia. You can find sustenance while avoiding the vast majority of the #HalloweenHordes. Just check out lower Lafayette Street, or as some prefer LOLA.

Ray Adeas remains one of Salem’s best kept secrets. Their Mediterranean and Jamaican specialities are exceptional in every way. The French Fries will overwhelm your senses.

Across the street is Crave for quick, delicious Sandwiches and other treats. They have been a great addition to an iconic corner.

Then you have the always excellent, and recently renovated Spitfire Tacos. We hear strong talk that the popular Salmon Taco is back.

Witch City Hibachi, Inc. Is Salem’s only hibachi spot. But they also have regular tables and bar seating. #TheBaldOne likes the Drunken Noodles.

And, there’s even a Wendy’s. They employ locals you know and would love to see you

Don’t stay home. Get out and enjoy yourself.

Oh yes. Despite the fact the next few weekends will still bring more than a few visitors to town, it is truly safe for locals to finally venture downtown.

Here are a few of the newer spots that you should explore.

Barrio Salem sits right across from the Central Fire Station on Lafayette Street. Stop in a say hey to Maggie for us.

On Derby Street there’s American Flatbread Salem. Jim would love to meet you, and Morgan and Paul are there to serve your pie and beverage.

Witch City Hibachi, Inc. is the only place in Salem where you can commune directly with the spirits of Salem’s pool playing past. Willie Mosconi shot pool there in the long gone days of yesteryear.

Have you visited the new Crave yet? Now’s the time.

Scroll the photos.
